Rian Hughes work is a synthesis of illustration, design and type. Trained as a graphic designer, he divides his time betwen CD design and related music industry work, advertising, custom type design and logos for clients such as MTV, DC Comics, Swatch, Warners and many others. Several volumes of his strips have been collected, and he has contributed to numerous exhibitions both in his native England and all over the globe. His love of comics and printed ephemera, TV tiles and cartoons is tied to a modernist credo of clarity and colour harmony. He would like to develop a blockbusting animated TV show, and in the meantime tends his collection of Thunderbirds ephemera, easy listening albums and his fridge full of vodka. 2001/August Rian Hughes
